Our neighborhood looks stable, secure, and safe. But every day, people line up at the food bank in the basement of a local church. These are the people who are invisible. You only see them when they are standing in line as you drive by. You don’t see them when they are sleeping in a doorway or on the train. You don’t see them when they are asking for money on a street corner. You make an effort not to see them. But they are all manifestations of the divine.
“Every visible and invisible creature is an appearance of God.”
—Johannes Scotus Eriugena.
Every few months, our neighborhood collects food for this food bank. It’s just a drop in the bucket, but when combined with other neighborhoods in the area, it hopefully makes a difference. And if you help the divine, you help everyone. Because everyone is divine. Especially the invisible.
